Washington, DC – Congresswoman Sheri Biggs (R-SC03) today joined 218 House colleagues in supporting H.R. 28, the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act. The legislation, of which she was an original co-sponsor, protects the rights of female athletes for fair competition and reasonable expectations of privacy and safety by ensuring that only biological females may compete in gender-specific sporting competitions classified for women or girls, that receive federal funds.
Congresswoman Biggs issued the following statement on passage of the Act:
“Today is a monumentally important step for women, particularly those who have dedicated their time and energy to compete at the highest levels of the sport they love,” said Congresswoman Biggs. “For these women, the countless hours of training and preparation to be the very best in their sport, only to have someone – who was born a male – exploit competitive standards and biological truths in an effort to win, is patently unfair. No female should be forced to compete against a biological male; it’s a wrong that undoes decades of progress in women’s sports. This bill levels the playing field for daughters and granddaughters, acknowledges God’s unique design of man and woman, and restores truth and sanity.”
Congresswoman Biggs is an original co-sponsor of the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, a bill that clarifies any school receiving federal assistance that allows a male to participate in an athletic program or activity designated for females is in violation of Title IX.
